Kedarnath yatra is one of the holiest shrines located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state in India. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest Hindu shrines of Shiva. Kedarnath is located at an altitude of 3,584 m above sea level, near the head of Mandakini river. Kedarnath yatra is available from the four main entry points in Uttarakhand, namely Gaurikund, Sonprayag, Ukhimath, and Phata. From these points, pilgrims can reach Kedarnath after a trek of around 14 km. The trek is usually done on foot, but ponies and palanquins are also available.
The main attraction of the Kedarnath yatra is the visit to the Kedarnath temple by helicopter. The temple is built in the 8th century and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Inside the temple, the idols of Lord Shiva, Nandi and Parvati are placed. Thousands of pilgrims visit the temple every year to seek blessings from Lord Shiva.
